The University of Asia and the Pacific Chorale (UA&P Chorale, est. 1995) is the resident choral ensemble of the University of Asia and the Pacific (Pasig City, Philippines). Under the artistic direction of its current choirmaster, Danilo Monte, its intention is to continue developing a varied and progressive repertoire of sacred and secular music. The group is composed of male and female students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University.
Over the past years, the UA&P Chorale has produced numerous major concerts and performs regularly at University events, choral festivals, and other singing engagements. The choir launched its first CD album, entitled âONEâ, in June 2005. Under its past choirmaster, Arwin Tan, the UA&P Chorale brought honor to the Philippines by sweeping the 23rd International Choral Festival of Preveza - 11th International Competition of Sacred Music, held in Preveza, Greece from July 7 to 10, 2005. The group won three First Prizes, having earned the highest-ranking Gold Medals in all three categories that they joined (Mixed Choirs, Chamber Choirs and Mixed Youth Choirs). They also received a Special Prize for Best Performance of Folklore Music. This was the UA&P Choraleâs first international competition.
The group has also participated in several choral festivals and local competitions, such as the 2004 Paskong Himig sa Lungsod ng Pasig Christmas Singing Competition, in which they emerged Grand Champion. They also recently competed at the 2005 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) College Choir Category (October-November 2005), winning First Prize in the NCR Regional Competitions. They proceeded to the NAMCYA National Finals to represent NCR and were awarded Second Prize in the College Choir category. NAMCYA is the most prestigious national music competition for young artists in the Philippines.
With the support of the community to back them up, the University of Asia and the Pacific Chorale continues to pursue its primary goal of delivering beautiful music to its audience, and hopes to eventually be regarded as one of the premier choirs not only in the Philippines, but also throughout the world.
